A charming set of two hand-colored etchings, titled "Partridge Hawking" and "Pheasant Hawking", featuring hunting scenes by English painter and etcher Samuel Howitt (1756–1822). These etchings were originally created by Howitt in 1799-1800. This edition was printed by Edward Orme (1775–1848) on Bond Street in London in 1812.
The frames on these pieces, a unique Art Deco style, are thoughtfully complemented with French style matting with hand-painted soft green and gold details.
Dimensions:
- Overall: approx. 19" wide x 17.25" tall each (including frames)
-
Print: approx. 8.5" wide x 6.5" tall each
Condition:
"Partridge Hawking" is in good overall condition with some slight yellowing in areas. "Pheasant Hawking" has a water stain over the right half of the etching (see photos). The stain has not affected the clarity or hand-painted color details of the etching.
The frames have scratches in areas and wear consistent with their age (see close-up photos). New, archival museum-grade backing board has been added to both frames. New dust covers and fresh hanging wire have also been installed on both pieces.
These are antiques and therefore are naturally in "used" condition. Please view all photos before purchasing.
