This hand-colored engraving, printed in England in 1831, features an illustration of the Thoroughbred race horse "Moonraker" and is accompanied by the caption, "Moonraker. Published by M. A. Pittman. Warwick Square, London. July 1, 1831."
Of hundreds of prints I browsed in a small high street print shop in the Peak District, this engraving's soft, pretty color palette caught my eye. I also love the second horse off in the background.
Three other antique prints found in the same print shop during our trip to England last fall are part of this curated collection and can be found here:
- 1810 Framed Hand-Colored Hunt Scene Engraving "His Majesty going out with the hounds on Windsor Forest
- 1793 Framed Hand-Colored Horse Engraving: "Anvil, late property of His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales"
- 1860 Miniature Framed Hand-Colored Hunt Scene Lithograph
Dimensions:
- Artwork: 5.75" wide by 4.75" tall
- Frame Overall: 12.25" wide by 10" tall
Condition:
Engraving is in excellent condition with very slight darkening of the paper in areas due to age.
The engraving has been carefully framed in a lovely repurposed vintage frame. Each framing element is archival: from the museum grade mat and backing board, to the traditional mulberry paper mounting hinges, to the dust cover on the back of the frame.
This is an antique item and therefore is naturally in "used" condition. Please view all photos before purchasing.
